Planning: Website sketches

 In my sketches of my web page, I have included the term 'exclusive' to entice avid fans as it will make them feel special and more involved with the band, allowing them to create a sense of personal identity. as well as this, linking the band's social media it creates a level of interactivity between the fans and the artists.

I am going to include images of both behind the scenes shots and professional shoots of the band to offer a variety of content of the artist which will please the audience.

Also, the use of a 'merch' and 'tour' pages are typical conventions of online music artist websites and promotes the band, bringing in a larger profit.

I have featured the music video at the very top of the home page to draw the audience's attention straight to it, which acts as the best promotion possible for the video. 

Generic Research: Case studies

I took a look at some other music videos by arctic monkeys to gain inspiration for my own, as well as take into account the typical media language used for the style of the song that I am going to use.

 

Planning: Mood Boards

 

Here, I created a mood board with some screen shots of scenes of previous arctic monkeys music videos to get a feel for the style of video and to gain inspiration for some of the shots I could use in my own product. From this I found that the use of screens as well as shadows are popularly used to create a sense of enigma, adhering to Roland Barthes concept as well as Andrew Goodwin, in addition to cinematic wide shots which conduct a sense of symmetry.

I also found some images off of Pinterest which I get represented the kind of images and feel I would like to produce in my own piece in the form of a mood board. As the mis en scene will be a party in my music video, I focused on including images of these in my mood board, with the dark ambience with coloured lights which I want to achieve. I also included the lyrics of the song in my mood board, as I feel as though the images reflected the lyrics quite well. 

Planning: Storyboard

 

I created a storyboard to get the general idea of some shot types and set the tone for what I wanted to produce and the narrative and storyline I want to follow. I incorporated various shot types and locations in my storyboard plan to make the video more complex and unique and act as a reminder for when I am gathering footage. The highlighted sections will be flashbacks and filmed in a different way than the rest of the production.

Audience Research: Audience Profile

By conducting this audience research, it has allowed me to gather a clearer understanding of the assigned demographic. I interviewed a variety of people that fall into the brief of being a 16-25 year old, upmarket, middle class, media literate individual; from this I learned that the demographic tends to keep up with modern trends, whether that be music, fashion or celebrity gossip. I discovered that they are strongly influenced by social media in which they are significantly present, and act as active audiences across the majority of platforms, including the likes of TikTok, Instagram and Snapchat. Many of the demographic enjoyed indie rock bands with a large fanbase, like Arctic Monkeys or stereophonics, as well as enjoying slightly more alternative, underground artists like Mitski. By conducting this audience profile research, I have learned more about my audiences familiar wants when it comes to consuming media which will allow me to more easily incorporate this into my music video and website.

I have chosen this song for my NEA music video as I feel as though the lyrics can be interpreted and reflected well. during my research I believe that this song has a lot of potential to produce a good narrative music video as it features things like intertextuality in its lyrics (Cantonna), as well as the lyrics following a clear  structure which reflects on the singers own experiences which can easily be acted outing the music video. I also feel as though an Arctic Monkeys song is suitable when considering the Beggars Group will be the production company, as the band and the song generally falls into the typical indie genre that the production group supports. 

My first idea for my own adaption of this song is to have a leading male character sat alone at a house party perhaps on the stairs reminiscing on an ex lover, whilst the video incorporates the use of flashbacks to show the pairs experiences. 

Planning: Initial Narrative and Mise en scene

MISE-EN-SCENE: 

I plan for my music video to ultimately take place in a house party stairwell, surrounded by bright flashing lights and people partying around the main character. This busy, hectic and overwhelming mise-en-scene will be in contrast to a flashback of memories which will take place throughout summer, on the beach, which throughout the song, the main character will walk through, but now being alone, when going for a walk to clear his head.

NARRATIVE:

My initial idea for the music video is to have a leading male character sat alone at a house party, perhaps on the stairs, reminiscing on an ex lover in his own thoughts, whilst the party buzzes around him, after catching glances of the girl at the party, whilst the video incorporates the use of flashbacks to show the pairs past experiences.
